Aerial Inspections

Drone & Aerial Inspections: Roofs, Buildings & Infrastructure

Drone inspection imagery for residential and commercial buildings, roofing, towers, industrial assets, utilities and infrastructure across Winnipeg, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Kenora region. Visual records support maintenance decisions and professional follow-up; scope depends on access, equipment and flight permissions.

What are aerial inspections?

An aerial inspection is a survey performed from the air, most often with a drone carrying a camera, thermal sensor or other payload, instead of ladders, lifts or scaffolding. An aerial inspection is one survey of one asset — a roof, façade, tower, powerline or bridge; aerial inspections describes the full range of those surveys, from residential roof checks to commercial envelope and utility inspections. ClearHorizon performs aerial inspections across Winnipeg, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Kenora region of northwestern Ontario.

Telecom towers, bridges, flare stacks, grain elevators and smokestacks inspected without climbing.

Yearly for most assets; quarterly for critical stacks or towers.

Powerline & Pipeline Inspections

Pole, line, substation and pipeline right-of-way inspections with thermal hot-spot detection.

Yearly for most corridors; quarterly for critical substations and after major storms.

Wind Turbine Inspections

Blade and tower inspections with short shutdowns instead of days of rope access.

Yearly, and after lightning strikes or major storms.

Confined Space Drone Inspections

Palm-sized drones inspect boilers, tanks, ductwork and bridge undersides without sending a person inside.

Per project or with scheduled maintenance shutdowns.

Rapid Post-Storm Damage Assessment

Quick, low-profile roof and property damage records right after Winnipeg hail, wind and freeze events.

After storms.

Drone inspection applications in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Saskatchewan & the Kenora region

Industrial facilities, towers, stacks & storage structures

Factories, telecom towers, chimneys, stacks, grain elevators, bins and accessible tank exteriors.

Document visible corrosion, coating deterioration, cracks and accessible exterior components. Tank internals, wall thickness and weld integrity require separate specialist methods; shutdown and stand-off requirements are site-specific.

Powerlines, substations & pipeline rights-of-way

Poles, overhead line components, substations, exposed pipeline assets and surface corridors.

Visible condition, vegetation encroachment and erosion documentation, with thermal capture where scoped. Aerial imagery does not establish buried pipe integrity, gas leaks or electrical safety; corridor operations depend on flight permissions.

Solar arrays & wind turbines

Rooftop and ground-mounted solar panels, turbine blades and towers.

Solar temperature anomalies and visible turbine surface damage can guide maintenance. Solar capture needs suitable operating conditions; turbine inspections require operator coordination and an agreed safe shutdown plan.

Bridges, roads, rail corridors & civil infrastructure

Accessible bridge surfaces, road embankments, rail rights-of-way and construction drainage.

Exterior visual records and terrain mapping can support infrastructure professionals. Undersides, bearings, culvert interiors and live transport corridors require a separate access and safety review; imagery does not certify bridge capacity or track safety.

Farms, crops, livestock & agricultural structures

Crop fields, pastures, fences, water sources, barns, bins and grain elevators.

Crop-health maps, livestock sightings, drainage mapping and accessible structure imagery support producers. Multispectral and thermal equipment must be confirmed for the project; crop stress patterns do not identify a disease or prescribe treatment without agronomic review.

Shorelines, wetlands, forestry & water infrastructure

Erosion sites, shorelines, wetlands, reclamation land, drainage basins and accessible dam or reservoir surfaces.

Surface imagery and repeat mapping support change monitoring and environmental consultants. Vegetation can obscure the ground; underwater structures, water quality and dam safety need separate testing or professional assessment.

Storm damage, insurance & property due diligence

Hail- or wind-affected roofs and exteriors, acquisition properties and warranty records.

Capture visible condition and compare available baseline records for owners and adjusters. Imagery does not determine insurance coverage, defect causation or full property compliance.

Specialist inspections — availability unconfirmed

Sewer, tunnel & gas-hazard interiors
Our palm-sized drones handle boilers, tanks, ductwork and bridge undersides; sewer, long tunnel and explosive-atmosphere interiors still need separate review of equipment, gas risks and facility permits.
Ultrasonic, contact & non-destructive testing
Wall-thickness measurements, weld testing and contact probes require validated equipment and qualified personnel. Standard aerial photos and thermal cameras cannot provide these results; availability is unconfirmed.
Gas, methane & environmental sampling
Leak detection, emissions measurement and air or water sampling require dedicated calibrated sensors and an agreed methodology. These are not established by a visual pipeline or environmental survey; availability is unconfirmed.
Underwater, offshore & hazardous-area inspections
Submerged assets require underwater equipment; offshore and explosive atmospheres require separate equipment and operational approvals. These specialist services are not confirmed.

Aircraft size and payload capacity do not establish sensor capability, hazardous-area suitability or professional certification. Each project requires an equipment, site and permissions review.

Frequently asked questions

+What types of drone inspections can I request?

Discuss roofs and building exteriors, thermal surveys, towers and stacks, utility corridors, solar and wind assets, infrastructure imagery, construction records, agricultural monitoring and environmental mapping. The asset, sensor, access and reporting scope are confirmed before booking; not every application is available at every site.

+Does a drone inspection replace an engineer or a certified inspector?

No. Aerial images, thermal patterns and maps are evidence for the appropriate professional. They do not certify structural integrity, code compliance, electrical safety, buried asset condition or concealed defects.

+Can small drones inspect tanks, sewers or confined spaces?

Yes — our palm-sized drones inspect inside boilers, storage tanks, ductwork and under bridges so fewer workers need to enter. The facility's permits, gas testing and safety procedures still apply, and sewers or explosive atmospheres need separate review.

+How are inspection cost, timing and report delivery determined?

Send the address, asset type and size, accessible areas, required image detail and intended use of the report. Travel, airspace, shutdowns, weather, sensors and processing determine a scoped quote and agreed delivery date. No universal price or turnaround applies to every inspection.

+What are aerial inspections?

Aerial inspections are inspections performed from the air — most often with a drone carrying a camera, thermal sensor or other payload — instead of ladders, lifts or scaffolding. An aerial inspection is one survey of one asset, such as a roof, façade, tower or powerline; aerial inspections describes the full range, from residential roof checks to commercial envelope surveys. ClearHorizon performs aerial inspections across Winnipeg, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Kenora region of northwestern Ontario. Aerial imagery documents visible condition; it does not replace professional engineering assessment.

+Do I need to shut down operations for a drone inspection?

Usually not. Flare stacks, rooftops and towers can typically be inspected while the site stays operational.

+What do I receive after an inspection?

A geotagged photo and video report highlighting defects, with locations you can hand to contractors or insurers.

+What weather conditions affect operations?

We follow Transport Canada regulations: operations pause in winds exceeding safe operating thresholds, active thunderstorms, or freezing precipitation (below 0°C for wet washing).

+What is the safety perimeter required?

A 5-metre controlled cordon around the active operating zone.

+Are pilots licensed and insured?

Yes, all pilots hold Transport Canada Advanced RPAS Pilot Certificates with comprehensive commercial aviation liability coverage.

+What sizes of drones does ClearHorizon operate?

Our fleet ranges from drones small enough to fit in your hand to drones the size of a truck box, with payload capacity up to 100 lb on our larger aircraft. Capacity varies by aircraft, equipment and operating conditions; we select the platform for each project.

+What are drone services?

Drone services are professional tasks performed using remotely piloted aircraft and equipment such as cameras, thermal sensors, mapping systems or cleaning attachments. A drone service is one specific task; drone services describes the range of work available. ClearHorizon provides commercial and residential drone services from Winnipeg across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Kenora region of northwestern Ontario. We are a service provider, not a drone retailer; each project depends on equipment, site access, weather and flight permissions.
